DG85CM Electric Vehicle Datasheet

MORE on Automotive Relays

Willow Technologies (www.willow.co.uk) presents the Durakool DG85CM magnetic arc blowout relay, with a maximum switching voltage of 145 VDC. It provides the perfect solution for modern electric vehicles, which use increasingly higher battery voltages to save weight and reduce battery pack size.

Typical EV systems might use 48VDC, 72VDC or 80VDC. These voltages are difficult to switch using traditional relays. Relays of this type are generally used to switch capacitive or inductive loads which can cause contact failures (welding) with other contact materials. The DG85CM electric vehicle relay features AgSnO2 contacts with high inrush capability 150A@ 12.8VDC, overcoming difficulties in switching.

John Merrill, Relays Product Manager at Willow commented, "The Durakool DG85CM is available with a range of DC coils for high continuous DC current carrying capability from 6VDC to 110VDC, making it suitable for many automotive and industrial applications. It can be used in electric vehicles of all types, including mild hybrids, for power steering, active suspension, DC motors and DC motor drives etc. An example industrial application is in solar panels where these relays are proving very popular."

The maxi ISO terminal arrangement of the DG85CM automotive relay follows an internationally recognised standard, readily fitting available sockets and connectors without requiring special tools or components. Easily incorporated into designs, it comes with PCB mounting for soldering to a control PCB, or with socket mounting for directly mounting into a socket, or with bracket mounting for directly mounting to a chassis and connections made via crimp terminals.

"The Durakool Team continue to consider the challenges faced by Engineers and how to help them achieve increasingly better performance with each application. The DG85CM more than fits the bill, plus it makes a significant difference by saving weight and enabling the overall battery pack size to be reduced" Concluded Merrill.
