Willow Technologies Limited www.willow.co.uk is now delivering the brand new KXTJ2, Kionix’s smallest tri-axis MEMS accelerometer to date, at a tiny 2 x 2 x 0.9mm. The KXTJ2 boosts Kionix’s competitiveness as an innovative sensor supplier in the mobile handsets and tablets markets.

The low power, high performance and small form factor KXTJ2 is optimized for mobile handsets and tablets in which every square millimetre of board space is critical. It features the newly designed XAC sensor, which offers outstanding stability with a market-leading combination of improved shock, reflow and thermal performance.

Said Martin Pearce, Marketing Director, at Willow Technologies Limited, “The XAC sensor decreases need for production-line calibration, providing customers substantial cost reductions”.

Combined with significant drops in active power and noise, the KXTJ2 promises to be a leading contender in the handsets and tablets markets.

“The KXTJ2 is a prime example of how Kionix attend to changing customer requirements for a reduced sensor footprint, without compromising performance for size”, continues Pearce.

Additional KXTJ2 features include:

  • Low current consumption in all modes: 2 μA standby, 10 μA at low resolution and 135 μA for high resolution.
  • A user-configurable, low-power, embedded wake-up function, allowing the user to conserve battery life by powering down other systems until required.
  • User-selectable resolution and acceleration ranges at +/-2g, +/-4g or +/-8g, combined with user-selectable Output Data Rate (ODR).
  • Low noise for better resolution.

Communication on an I2C digital serial interface bus allows for easy system integration eliminates the requirement of an analogue-to-digital converter and provides direct communication with system microcontrollers.

An internal voltage regulator that maintains constant internal operating voltages over its 1.8 – 3.6V range of input supply, results in stable operating characteristics and virtually undetectable ratio metric error.

Up to 14-bit resolution for greater precision.

Availability

Available in a 12-pin, LGA, plastic package, the KXTJ2 is now sampling to qualified customers.

“Kionix continue to dedicate engineering resources to the development of technology. The new XAC sensor packs enhanced capability in a smaller package at a lower cost, thereby fulfilling two of the most important requirements of handset and tablet manufacturers”, concludes Pearce.
