Willow Technologies Limited www.willow.co.uk announces the launch of Murata’s expanded range of AMR sensors to include horizontal and vertical sensing, the AS-M and AS-V series of anisotropic magneto resistance (AMR) sensors.

The AS-M and AS-V series detection technique provides a non-contact magnetic sensor of high sensitivity for use in a relatively low magnetic field. These extremely small devices, the smallest measuring just 1.2 x 1.2 x 0.37 mm, can detect a magnetic field in either a horizontal or vertical direction.

Said Martin Pearce, Marketing Director, Willow Technologies Limited, “Compared to traditional magnetic switch components, such as a reed switch or Hall effect IC, AMR sensors have higher detection sensitivity, are more robust and offer a wider detection area.”

Aimed at a broad range of consumer electronics devices, these cost effective sensors are ideally suited to open / close detection applications for mobile phones and note book PCs, in addition to use in consumer white goods, industrial and security equipment.

The AS-M series provides horizontal sensing across a wide detection area; this allows a more flexible approach to sensor and magnet mounting location, compared to a Hall effect IC. Within the series, the AS-M15SAH-R and AS-M15KAH-R sensors feature a narrow range of sensitivity, from 0.5 to 1.6mT that suit high accuracy applications. The AS-M15SA-R and AS-M15KA-R parts have a wide sensitivity range, from 0.5 to 2.2mT and are aimed at lower cost designs.

The AS-V series provides vertical magnetic field detection, and is designed as a more cost effective replacement for Hall IC designs.

“Both the AS-M series and AS-V series have the same land compatibility as SOT23 and SON4, and are suitable for reflow soldering,” concludes Pearce.
